Welcome to Eejikka, a delightful café tucked away in the serene Miyakubo region of Imabari, Ehime. This charming spot offers a unique blend of flavors, absorbing the essence of its local surroundings while nurturing a warm, inviting atmosphere that feels just like home.

The star of the menu here is undoubtedly the curry udon, a dish that has enchanted both locals and visitors alike. Imagine sinking your teeth into perfectly chewy udon noodles, bathed in a rich broth infused with the delicate umami of tai (sea bream) dashi. Customers rave about this exquisite flavor combination, with reviews highlighting how it's a version of curry udon they’ve never tasted before. For those hesitant about the dish due to personal preferences, fear not—many have discovered anew their love for curry udon right here at Eejikka.

Further elevating your culinary experience, don't miss the ebi miso onigiri, which boasts a subtle yet profound flavor that makes each bite a delightful companion to the rich broth of your udon. As one satisfied customer mentioned, the homey essence of the dish encourages you to embrace its comfort, leaving you eager for more.

To complement your meal, the café offers small side dishes made with fresh, local ingredients from the Miyakubo area. The ambiance at Eejikka is just as satisfying as the food. Nestled amidst lush greenery, the café exudes tranquility and warmth. Friendly staff—reminiscent of caring local mothers—are eager to make your visit memorable, ensuring everyone feels genuinely welcomed. As Barry Sun beautifully put it, the friendly service paired with delightful dishes provides an energy boost, an ideal alternative for those taking a break from cycling along the nearby scenic Shimanami Kaido.

For dessert, indulge in the house-special black fig (黒イチヂク), which you can enjoy skin-on—a sweet end to a wonderful meal that many have raved about. Each bite leads you further into a world of exceptional flavors, making your dining experience at Eejikka one to remember.

I was cycling the Shimanami Kaido from Onomichi to Imabari when I saw the sign for 映日果 during the main route through Oshima. It’s up quite a steep hill and I had to push my bike up but the walk was only around 7 minutes or so. I was the only customer on a Thursday at 11am and the ladies who run the shop are so sweet and friendly. The sea bream curry with additional sides (add-on) was only 1200 yen and very satisfying as I had not had much breakfast prior to starting the cycle from Omishima that morning. The lady at the counter was surprised to see me as they usually only have traffic on weekends when the local cycling group comes by or when there are events at the sports field opposite the restaurant. The menu is in Japanese but I believe you can Google Translate it if you do not read or speak the language. I hope that more people doing the Shimanami Kaido route, especially more foreigners, can come to support this lovely restaurant while in Oshima!
